Staying an Old Soul in the New World

Terms of Sale & Use

Effective August 28, 2026 · Last updated August 28, 2026

These terms cover buying the book Staying an Old Soul in the New World and using whereismas.com. The agreement is between you and Mason Alford, a sole proprietor doing business as Where Is Mas.

They are written plainly on purpose. They are still a binding agreement, and they include an arbitration provision and a limitation of liability that affect your legal rights.

Agreement to these terms

By using this website or buying anything on it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site or make a purchase.

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to buy.

Using the website

You may read this site and buy what is offered on it. You may not interfere with the site, attempt to gain access to parts of it you are not entitled to, scrape it at scale, or use it to break the law.

The site may change, and parts of it may be unavailable at times. It is not guaranteed to be available without interruption.

The product

Two things are offered during the presale:

  • The digital first edition of the book, for $26 — a one-time payment, delivered by email
  • The digital first edition plus a signed printed manuscript, for $49 — a one-time payment, with the manuscript mailed to a US address

Both are one-time purchases. There is no subscription, no recurring charge, and no automatic renewal of any kind.

Presale purchases

This is a presale. The finished book does not exist in final form at the time you buy, and it is not delivered immediately. The expected delivery date for the finished digital book is November 25, 2026, and that date is disclosed before you pay.

By buying during the presale, you acknowledge that you are paying now for something delivered later, and that the delivery date is an expectation rather than a guarantee.

If the delivery date changes materially, you will be notified by email and given the choice to keep waiting or take a full refund. Your rights if that happens are set out in the Refund Policy.

Payment

Payments are processed by Stripe. Prices are in US dollars. You are responsible for any taxes, currency conversion, or bank fees that apply to you.

By paying, you confirm that you are authorized to use the payment method. If a payment is reversed or disputed, access to what was delivered may be withdrawn.

Delivery

Digital delivery goes to the email address you give at checkout. Keep it accurate.

What arrives, and when

  • The preface and first chapter, by email, on September 15
  • The finished digital book, by email, on November 25, 2026
  • The signed manuscript, for $49 orders only, shipped 7 to 10 days after release day

Shipping the manuscript

The signed manuscript ships free within the United States and is capped at 100 copies. Shipping outside the United States is not offered during the presale. Once a parcel is handed to the carrier, delivery timing is in the carrier's hands rather than mine. If it arrives damaged or does not arrive, email me and it will be made right.

You are responsible for giving a correct shipping address. If a parcel is returned because the address was wrong, you will be contacted to arrange reshipment.

Refunds

Refund terms are set out in full in the Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: a full refund is available at any time before the finished book is delivered, and for 7 calendar days after delivery.

What you may do with the book

When you buy the book you get a personal, non-transferable license to read it and keep it. You may read it on your own devices and print a copy for your own use.

You may not:

  • Resell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute it
  • Upload it to a file-sharing service, forum, or public website
  • Share your copy or your download link with people who did not buy it
  • Remove or alter any copyright or ownership notice
  • Use it, or substantial parts of it, to train a machine-learning model
  • Reproduce substantial parts of it in your own work or product

Quoting a short passage with attribution — in a review, a post, a sermon, a conversation — is fine and encouraged. Reproducing chapters is not.

Intellectual property

The book, the writing on this site, the cover art, and the design are owned by Mason Alford and protected by copyright. Buying the book buys you a license to read it, not ownership of it.

What this book is, and is not

This book is personal writing. It is reflective, educational, and based on one man's experience and beliefs. It is offered in that spirit and should be read that way.

It is not medical advice, mental-health treatment, legal advice, financial or investment advice, or professional advice of any kind. It is not a substitute for a doctor, a therapist, a lawyer, a financial advisor, or a pastor who knows you. It is not a crisis service — if you are in crisis or in danger, contact emergency services or a crisis line where you live.

No particular result is promised. Nothing here guarantees that your life, relationships, finances, health, or circumstances will change in any specific way. What you do with any of it is your decision and your responsibility.

Disclaimer of warranties

The site and everything sold here are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mason Alford is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost opportunity, arising from the site or anything bought on it.

Total liability for any claim relating to a purchase is limited to the amount you actually paid for it.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Third-party services and links

This site uses outside services, including Stripe for payment, and may link to websites run by other people. Those services and sites have their own terms and privacy policies, and are not under my control. Linking to something is not an endorsement of everything on it.

Your conduct

Do not use this site to harass anyone, to impersonate anyone, to distribute malware, to attempt unauthorized access, or to break the law. Access may be suspended or terminated for doing any of that.

Disputes

If something goes wrong, email contact@whereismas.com first. Most problems are solved that way, and you will get a real answer from a real person.

If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, you and I agree to resolve it through binding individual arbitration rather than in court, and to bring claims only on an individual basis rather than as part of a class action. Either of us may still bring a qualifying claim in small claims court.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Where a court is required, the courts located in Geauga County, Ohio have jurisdiction.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change. The effective date at the top will change when they do. The terms that applied at the time of your purchase are the ones that govern that purchase.

Contact

Questions about these terms go to contact@whereismas.com. Contact is by email only.
