Staying an Old Soul in the New World
Accessibility

This site should work for you whether you use a mouse, a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification, or none of those. If it doesn't, I want to know.
The goal here is WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is the standard most commonly used to judge whether a website is accessible. Saying a site meets it everywhere is a bigger claim than anyone can honestly verify, so what follows is what has actually been tested and what has not.
What has been done
The book pages on this site have been checked and corrected for:
- Text contrast against its background, at the 4.5:1 ratio the standard asks for
- A visible focus outline on every link, button, and control, so keyboard users can see where they are
- A skip-to-content link, so keyboard users can jump past the header
- Proper page structure — one main heading per page, headings in order, and header, main, and footer landmarks
- Descriptive alternative text on images
- Controls large enough to hit reliably on a touchscreen
- Respect for the reduced-motion setting, so animations do not play if your system asks them not to
- Text that reflows without horizontal scrolling on a phone
The expanding purchase options are built with standard HTML elements rather than custom scripting, which means they work with a keyboard and are announced correctly by assistive technology without relying on JavaScript.
What has not been tested
Being straight with you about the limits:
- This site has not been tested end to end with a screen reader by a person who uses one daily. Automated checking catches only part of what matters.
- It has not been audited by an independent accessibility professional.
- Older parts of this site outside the book pages have not been reviewed to the same standard.
Checkout
Payment is handled by Stripe on Stripe's own checkout page. That page is built and maintained by Stripe, not by me, and its accessibility is theirs to control.
If you hit a barrier during checkout that stops you from buying the book, email me at contact@whereismas.com and I will take your order another way. You should not have to fight a checkout page to buy a book.
If something does not work
Email contact@whereismas.com. Tell me what you were trying to do, what got in the way, and what you were using — a screen reader, a keyboard, a phone, whatever it was. You do not need to know the technical name for the problem.
I read these myself and I will reply. If something is broken, I will fix it, and if a fix is going to take a while I will tell you that and give you another way to get what you needed.
This page will change
As more of the site is tested and fixed, this page gets updated to say so. If a claim here stops being true, it comes off the page.
